How Sheffield Steelers and Sheffield Steeldogs are now working together to harness the city’s best ice hockey talent

Sheffield Steeldogs and the Sheffield Steelers have the “best set up in the UK” according to one of those behind the link.

The Steelers play in the EIHL which is the top league in the UK whereas the Steeldogs play in the NIHL, which is the second most competitive league in the UK.

Co-Owner of Steeldogs, Ali Cree has expressed his delight about the partnership the Steeldogs have got with the Steelers.

He said: “I would say hands down that it is the best set up in the UK at the moment.

“It’s been huge for us having that partnership,” added Cree.

The set-up was described as being very much like the “North American setup.”

Cree said that the creation of the NIHL has made the game more competitive and was what everyone connected to the Steeldogs wanted.

“Every game is competitive,” said Cree

“I think that’s what the fans wanted, what the players wanted and we were wanting a product we can sell to everyone.”

The EPL folded in 2017.

Cree also said what he thought was the reason for the former second ice hockey tier in the UK to fold.

He said: “The EPL’s downfall was probably people overspending and trying to over compete especially in the south.”
